I asked the A.I. GROK about the reports that there is a stairwell leading to a STONE DOOR at the bottom of SHESHNA WELL in India, which is visible ONLY when the well is drained periodicaly. Here is what GROK said:

"The Well of Sheshna (also spelled Sheshna's Well or similar variants, located in Varanasi, India—formerly Benares) is a real stepwell associated with Hindu mythology, particularly linked to Nagas (serpentine semi-divine beings) and the underground realm of Patala (or Patalaloka/Nagaloka).

"According to longstanding legends and folklore:

"At the bottom of the well—typically described as under about 30 feet (or more) of water—there is said to be a stone door (or doorway/gate) carved or covered with cobra motifs/bas-reliefs.

"This door is claimed to serve as an entrance to the subterranean world of the Nagas, a mythical reptilian/netherworld realm.

"The legend draws from references in sources like Sherman A. Minton's book Venomous Reptiles (where he allegedly describes seeing or confirming a real stone door with cobra carvings at the base after descending steps into a circular depression).

"The well is periodically drained (e.g., every few years or on occasions like Nag Panchami for rituals), revealing a Shivling (symbol of Shiva) at the bottom, and some accounts mention a metal/iron sheet or covering over an opening/door-like feature during these times..."
